Reference project for the Murtenstrasse 147 development in Berne

On the former site of Gebrüder Müller AG at Murtenstrasse 147 in Bern, the ice storage heating system was put into operation in August 2021. The currently largest ice storage with 1,800 m3 supplies an aparthotel with 220 flats (https://loslorentes.com/res/), commercial premises and 85 flats with heating and cooling energy. The development was realised by Marti Gesamtleistungen AG Bern.

An ice storage system in combination with our PVT hybrid modules covers the entire heating and cooling energy demand. The building is consistently realised without fossil back-up heating. The only compromise: a recooler supplements the 400 PVT modules and provides additional power when outside temperatures are warm.

The project came about thanks to Peter Oesch. As the owner of the company Gebr. Müller AG and the site, he pursued the clear vision of constructing a sustainable and at the same time highly energy-efficient building on his land.

The overall energy concept of the company B-Solartec AG with the combination of PVT and ice storage was able to prevail over well-known competition.

Overall system consisting of:
- 400 PVT solar hybrid modules Silverstar SL 270 i, plus 140 kW recooler.
- System design, hydraulics + control: B-Solartec AG
- Heat pump: 2 x CPV 200-D, 2 x CPI 75-HA (total 550 kW)
- Ice storage with 2 x 900 = 1'800 m3 water volume and chrome steel heat exchangers

Energy demand:
- 330'000 kWh hot water
- 300'000 kWh heating
- 70'000 kWh cooling

PVT hybrid module Silverstar SL 270i:
The 400 hybrid modules have a total installed capacity of 292 kWp thermal and 108 kWp electrical. The thermal energy is primarily available for regenerating the ice storage and the electricity for the heat pump.

Ice storage:
The heat exchangers are repeatedly thawed during icing so that the ice plates detach and float up, so the heat pump almost always has a source temperature of 4° available even in winter. This makes a system coefficient of performance of over 4 possible.

Heat pumps, storage tank and prefabricated hydraulic module:
- 2 x CPV 200-D with 200 kW output each
- 2 x CPI 75-HA with 75 kW output each
- Storage volume hot water: 2 x 6 m3
- Storage volume heating / buffer: 11 + 5 m3
